  • RPM Surge Merc 4 stroke EFI

    Ok here is the senerio:

Sunday at LKA, water was like glass. Throttled down at full speed with trim up, no wakes, RPM when at 6,000 would start surging past 6,500 (i trimmed down instantly until rpm dropped to 5,500 where it held good).

Merc 115 four storke efi, with 46 hours. This has never happend before.

It is my understanding 6,000 rpm is the max you want to run a Merc at (yes, no?).

It this a issue or nothing to worry about? I thought it was strange that once I got it down to 5,500 it held spot on but the slightest trim up instant surge in rpm.

If an issue what are the possable problems?

    or just rookie boat captian?

Nope no turn straight as an arrow leaving lower Anna up to Dukes.

I know when you turn the RPMs can change, i figured that one out.

My guess is that you had it trimmed a bit too close and the prop was losing grip and spinning. On my Triton, if I trim it too high (nose), then my RPM's to MPH are way to high, and the SmartCraft guages actually tell me to throttle down (I can run to 7k).

Problem was having Scary in the boat.....
        cheers,
