  • Throttle cable Question

Hey guys, I have a 2007-08 mercury 25 HP fourstroke,
My question is, is there any way to adjust the throttle cable to run the motor wide open throttle because im not getting full performance, compared to the statistics in the boats website of what it says it should run. If there is what do I need to do to adjust it, like is it in the throttle body I need to adjust it or where the cable enters the engine?
    Thanks in advance, Luis

you can adjust the throttle cable, before you do that i would do as Wayne says and make sure you are using the correct pitch prop. Do you have a tach? it is crucial that you have one before you adjust the throttle and it will also tell you if your current prop is correct as well. If you are getting close to the WOT and are not getting the performance you desire it most likely is the pitch in the prop that is causing your issue.

I have a tach, and I got a better prop than stock from the Mercury prop selector. Its probably the right prop I think.

I assume that the cable runs inside a sleeve of some sort from your throttle at the helm to the motor. Move the throttle cable all way the open (full throttle) and note, mark or measure what you have for length coming out the at motor end. Now....disconnect the cable at the motor and shove it wide open again. Is it hard to move or does it slide more easily.? Did it go the same measurement or longer?

Well I tried adjusting it some but its like the cable is too long or the throttle handle wont go all the way down either way the throttle body is not opening 100%

Maybe it could adjust at the throttle body, you know, make it tighter so when handle is all the way down the throttle body opens all the way. Im not sure how to adjust it at the throttle body or where it is for that matter. if any one knows how to fix this i would appreciate any advice anyone can give me

i think you are going to find your prop is the problem. you can adjust the throttle cable at the slide rail on the motor. you should be able to google it and get the correct sequence of adjustment
