Thanks Wayne, upon further inspection i think i got lucky, i removed the 4 screws on the top unit and the red and black were already spliced with shrink tubing and it wasn't shrunk, lol. I pulled them apart and remove lower unit, there is just a set screw holding shaft onto the top unit so i don't think that will be too much trouble. Just e-mailed minn kota asking to buy a new 45" shaft. The hardest part is getting the lower unit loose from the shaft and it sounds like you have already done that. Yes, that one took care of itself, if it wasn't for the wiring my lower unit would be on the bottom of the doah! One more, is that guy laughing in sarcasm, lol

You are going to have to either remove the solder connections or cut the wires and use waterproof shrinktube to connect them back . The latter is the easiest. Not a hard job at all. The hardest part is getting the lower unit loose from the shaft and it sounds like you have already done that. I had to replace shaft bearings in a motorguide before. I just cut the wires up in the head and reconnected them with shrinktube. Cutting them in the head unit will also help protect them later on.Good luck

    Stripped Threads on Trolling Motor

I have a 55lb min kota bow mount, the threads on the shaft that hold the lower unit on are stripped, I see they sell different size shafts if you want a longer or shorter one. Should i try and rethread the shaft? there doesn't seem to be a lot of play in the wiring to get lower unit off, maybe a 1/16th of an inch. Have any of you ever changed the shaft? If so,,, how was it? I don't see how you can change it without disconnecting wiring:( is that done from the top end? Thanks for any help i can get.
Working...
