  • Ragged Mountain Reservoir

Took the nice Sunday to do some exploring- First time to Ragged Mountain (Charlottesville Reservoir)- Beautiful small lake surrounded by woods and hills. Lots of coves and some blowdowns and brushpiles to fish but I couldn't get anything big. Caught 12 or so, all 8 to 10 inches. It's a fairly new lake so maybe the big ones are hard to find. Downside is access. This place is not boater friendly- From the parking lot, it is a steep trail over 100 feet to water. My kayak only weighs 30 pounds but I was whopped after making a few trips up and down with gear. This place is definitely for a younger fisherman than me!

That is a VERY OLD lake, was recently re-done with a taller dam. I have not been there since the re-construction. I have a mounted bass caught there April 19, 1975. The lake was very old then.
