  • Outdoor Report May 5 to May 12

Date: May 5 to May 12

Potomac River: I stayed south this week on the Potomac fishing Aquia Creek primarily, working the coves outside the railroad trestle. I would breakout onto the flats fan casting an XCalibur xr-50 lipless crankbaits and Booyah spinnerbaits. The windy cloudy conditions made for some great spinnerbait fishing. A good secondary pattern was working the docks in the same areas with a weightless black and blue fleck YUM dinger. Locating the shell beds on these flats was key to getting bites. Fishing towards the end of the week was very slow for quality bass but still really good for overall numbers.

Lake Anna: Lots of bucks up on the beds, but the big girls were just outside the spawning areas cruising. No problem catching 14 to 15 inch fish working stump fields and water-willow beds in the mid-lake area using a YUM Houdini Shad rigged weightless. My favorite color being watermelon. For the bigger bite pull back and fish around the deeper docks with a shaky-head finesse worm.

Turkey Hunts: Weather was just to nasty this past week.
